The Three Phases of a Constellation

 In Family Constellation Fundamentals

During the process of a Constellation, an individual presents the issue with which they would like help. The next step is to determine who should be represented in the constellation and then those people are placed. Once the client enters the constellation “field” their internal healing process begins in relation to the issue as well as to the people represented in the constellation. Ultimately a person’s healing process involves three crucial steps: 1) acknowledging the facts, 2) accepting the facts, 3) agreeing to the facts.

A simple illustration of this healing process is when a person stands across from a representative for their mother. A complete healing experience for the individual would result from saying these three simple sentences to the representative for their mother. “I acknowledge you as my mother,” “I accept you as my mother,” and “I agree to all that has happened between us as mother and child.”

Often there is much emotion and energy that goes along with these sentences. It may take some period of time for a person to be able to say these words and allow the impact to affect them on the deepest levels of consciousness. Simply said, they are just words spoken from the head. Truly felt, they can change one’s relationship to their mother profoundly and touch the heart. A constellation offers the best possible opportunity for the full experience of the three phases of healing to occur.

Try it for yourself and test your reactions. Take out a picture of your mother to look at or visualize her image in your mind. Slowly, giving space in between each sentence to let the feelings in your body emerge; say the three sentences to her softly aloud. Breathe deeply and allow what comes. This process can be used with anyone in your life.
